Who: See Below
Upon our return last month we were remiss in acknowledging a pair of media members who continued to call out the local media homers in our absence. We thank KFAN’s Dan “Common Man” Cole and his interim producer Brandon “Tenna B” Mileski for keeping alive the spirit of Homersota with their “preposterous statement” contest.
Not everything presented the public had the taint of provincial homerism as illustrated below:
NBA writer Steve Aschburner contributed this classic quote, “Trees falling in unknown forests make more noise than the Wolves are making as they open their 21st season”.
The “Common Man” called out the Viking protectionists about their “feel pretty good about the loss” mentality after losing to the Steelers.
Even the likes of partisan Mark Rosen noted that Gopher Adam Weber had taken “massive steps backwards”.
Now for some runner-up material:
Paul Allen sold some serious hope to Twins fans (if not insulting their intelligence) by repeatedly saying the Yankees have struggled against “non-descript” lefties prior to getting swept in the first round of the playoffs.
Although technically not a qualifier for Homer of the Month given his lack of ties to the state, NFL color analyst Matt Millen called Vikings Coach Brad Childress an “offensive mastermind”.
In what could be classified as prematurely overstating the prowess of one of his clients, Jack Brewer declared Viking Sidney Rice “is totally taking over this league”.
After consecutive losses to Penn State and Ohio State (including giving up 38 points to the Buckeyes) Dean Dalton turned to Coach Brewster and suggested his defense was “outstanding throughout”.
Sid Hartman formulated this beauty while speaking with the Gopher football coach, “You gave Ohio State the game yesterday – they didn’t earn it”. He also claimed the Gophers have the best offensive line coach in the country.
Winner: The October Homer of the Month also has a Gopher football theme. After fielding calls critical of their quarterback WCCO’s Mike Max responded, “I’m glad you brought that up…if given time Adam Weber could pick apart any defense in the Big Ten.”
It looks like Sid Hartman’s protégé continues to make him proud. |
