Homer of the Month January 2007

Who: Tom Hanneman and Jim Peterson

What: Paul Allen recommended David Gibbs for the head Gopher football coach in a lame attempt at solidifying his pal Jack Brewer an assistant coaching position.  Allen called the former Gopher defensive coordinator (Gibbs) “a sure thing”.

The folks at www.10000takes.com turned us on to the superlatives Star Tribune writer Mike Russo used to describe the Minnesota Wild.  These included gutsiest, scintillating, and courageous.

The entire sport press is culpable for staying silent about Dave Lee being awarded the 2006 Minnesota Sports Broadcaster of the Year (admittedly we also were driven to silent shock).

Yet it was the depiction of the up and down Timberwolves that really caught our attention.  Both play by play announcer Tom Hanneman and normally candid color analyst Jim Peterson were at their carnival barking worst promoting a team that went 9-8 during the month.  Hanneman hyped K.G. after nearly every rebound and “Pete” stated the team played well in a 106-91 loss to the Utah Jazz.

Bottom Line:  Any doubt who is signing the two Wolves broadcaster’s paychecks?
