Who: FSN Hockey Broadcast Team

The month was peppered with the usual jock sniffing, self-grandising, and outrageous takes by many in the Minnesota sports press.  In particular the giddiness exhibited after each proceeding Viking win came off like clock work by talking heads Allen, Coleman, Simons, Rosen, Max, Dean Dalton and Jim Rich.

However this month’s winners (and runner-up) have a hockey theme.

Runner-Up:  Snatching the silver is Gopher radio hockey analyst Glen Sonmor.  While speaking with Chad Hartman on KFAN, he bristled at the notion that Gopher Coach Don Lucia was mentioned in Patrick Reusse’s annual “Turkey of the Year” column.  Furthermore, his defense of the teams early season underachieving rang hollow to the objective listener.

Winner/s:  Comporting themselves as if their beloved Gophers had just qualified for the Frozen Four, the FSN hockey broadcast team was grinning ear to ear after a Friday night victory over Minnesota State (Mankato).  In particular, host Anthony LaPanta and “something called” Kevin Gorg’s frenzied enthusiasm failed to conceal their palpable sense of relief after the Gophers finally earned a decisive win.

Bottom Line: It will be fascinating to observe how they spin their post game analysis if the men’s hockey team continues to struggle.
