For the week ending May 13, 2006

Who: WCCO Radio Crew

What: True to form, the Twin Cities press got back on track this week with a myriad of provincial assessments.

In contention was sports anchor Mark Rosen. His interview of Viking's Head Coach Brad Childress (which Channel 4 milked during sweeps weeks) had viewers witnessing a multitude of rhetorical softball questions (when you nod yes to the question you're asking it may be a hint to the answer you want to elicit). He also was instrumental in creating a new "media darling" (albeit short lived) with a segment on former Gopher Zach Pachtel's NFL tryout (you may want a blindfold and earplugs if you plan on watching the May 14 Sunday night segment on Matt Birk's new restaurant).

Another contender was morning sports DJ Jeff Dubay. The beginnings of the Viking post-draft promotion has begun in earnest with his dismissive remarks directed at the NFC North champion Chicago Bears. A local internet blog (www.readexiled.com/blog) stated the case eloquently under the heading "Losersota" and we encourage you to read it.

And now for those taking home the hardware. The WCCO radio sports team was suspiciously silent after the news broke regarding the poor graduation rates of the University of Minnesota football and men's basketball programs. Those talking sports (Max, Mona, Sid, Lee, Thompson, Maloney, and Nelson) avoided the tough questions this raises concerning leadership, competitiveness and the potential loss of scholarships.

Bottom Line: The facade that the U "does it better" than other conference schools (regarding academics) has been exposed as fraudulent which may have left the staff down the dial shaken and speechless.
