Who: Dave Mona
What: The Sunday morning "Sports Huddle" radio hosts were in peak form coming off the news of two approved sports stadiums. Gopher football coach Glen Mason spoke with the boys and Sid jokingly asked him, "Are you going to coach the first game"? Coach Mason replied, "I hope so-God willing." Then in a pavlovian-like reaction Dave Mona abruptly stated, "and beyond"! Later in the conversation (after Sid suggested they haven't had a better coach at Minnesota) Mona lobbed a rhetorical softball about how much a new stadium would mean to Minnesota high school kids. They concluded this love fest with Mona declaring, "Glen you've been an articulate spokesperson on this subject" and congratulated him on the pending new stadium.
Even more telling was Mr. Mona's reaction to a call from a Colorado State fan. After asking about the possibility of rescheduling a game vs. the Rams, he asked if the hosts were aware of www.homersota.com. This stopped Mr. Mona in his tracks (two seconds of silence) before dismissing the question and jumping right to his talking points, "In terms of going out to Ft. Collins, it was a great place to go to. I think anybody who went with the Gophers would love to go back there."
Bottom Line: The "Don King" of Gopher athletics continues to solidify his status as a "blind homer".
