For the week ending July 22, 2006

Who: See Below

What: This week’s contenders included some usual suspects and a surprise nominee.  FSN’s Dick Bremer credited Joe Mauer for the Twins pitchers strikeout prowess and played the sympathy card for the recently surging Rondel White.  He speculated that the fans would give White a standing ovation if he got a third straight hit for “all he’s gone through”.

Jeff Dubay declared, “I believe Carlos Silva is a very good starting pitcher”, forecasted Francisco Liriano would throw multiple no-hit games during his career and would not trade him to perennial all-star slugger Albert Pujols.

Dark Star whined about the Twins new radio deal calling it “one of the worst business moves ever” and “a dirty deed”.

Sid Hartman chastised the University of Minnesota for “ruining” the life of Gary Russell for declaring the seldom seen in class RB ineligible.

In discussing the “loyalty” angle of the Twins/WCCO radio controversy, Don Shelby described the Twins actions as “not very Minnesotan” and co-host Mike Max immediately chimed in (like a son seeking his fathers approval) to agree with “that’s not Minnesotan”.

Star-Tribune writer Michael Rand continued the “Mauer Power” hype with a softball Q & A session with the All-Star catcher.

Even Dan Barreiro’s interview with slugger Justin Morneau had a touch of “kid gloves” to it.

However, this week’s recipient was even more deserving.  Mark Rosen was at his “homerish” best with his boot-licking interview with Twin Nick Punto on his Sunday night sports recap.  Even more contemptible was his decision to bring in Joe Mauer’s parents for a series of banal questions.

Bottom Line:  Wonder if Rosen prepared adoption papers for the Mauers to sign prior to their departure from the television studio?
