Who: Mike Max and Don Shelby
What: We "learned" a few things from the talking heads this week that brought bemusement:
- Vikings DE Kenechi Udeze is a quick healer (Joe Senser)
- The addition of Carlos Lee could have propelled the Twins to a World Series championship (Darren Wolfson)
- We should not be concerned with the Vikings receiving corps (Jeff Dubay)
- A 21st league ranking in defense for the 2005 Vikings was a misleading stat (Jeff Dubay)
- The Twins have the best manager in baseball (David Lee)
- The Vikings are in good shape at the back up QB position as they found a sleeper and "golden gem" in Travaris Jackson (Greg Coleman)
After last week's near miss with their dual "WCCO is not acting very Minnesotan" comments, one could have projected the possibility of this pick. However no one could have anticipated their prospective "Homer of the Year" discussion regarding how a reporter should approach their trade.
WCCO radio host Don Shelby asked Make Max, "Do you ever feel like it's difficult to stay unbiased and is that really (implying it is not) a requirement for sports reporters?"
Max's amazing response, "I don't know, could probably tell me better than I could tell you on that end."
Max went on to justify his actions with the "rooting for people you like" alibi.
Bottom Line: If you've ever questioned the need for a web site like www.homersota.com, these two" journalists" just made the case.
