Who: NON-HOMER of the WEEK (see below)
What: The media was swarming this past week with the plethora of Twins related parochial takes:
-WCCO's Dave Lee gushed, "I love Mauer and Morneau. You ask them a question and they talk about everyone else."
-Mark Rosen suggested the Twins knocking the Yankees out of the playoffs would "shock the world". Hmmm, a team with the batting champion, potential Cy Young and MVP award winners, and possibly 2006's best closer should shock people?
-After Joe Mauer failed to score from third base on a wild pitch, Dick Bremer and Bert Blyleven instinctively turned to the alibi card suggesting Mauer could not see the ball. They went on further to say Morneau recently got thrown out going from third to home and Joe was probably thinking about that.
Flipping the script this week, we concluded that a local journalist deserved being recognized as the "Non-Homer of the Week" for his cogent assessment of the University of Minnesota's Athletic Director. Patrick Reusse's unvarnished writing completely dissected Joe Maturi's ineptitude and dismantled any justification that his recent contract extension was warranted.
Bottom Line: Combining Reusse's editorial with the recent Star/Tribune article revealing the U. of M. football programs low academic standards and poor graduation rates must leave Gopher apologists Sid Hartman, Dave Mona, Mike Max, Paul Allen, Lou Nanne, and Dave Lee grasping for new excuses. |
