For the week ending October 7, 2006

Who: Don Shelby

What:

-WCCO's Mark Rosen gushed that Joe Mauer winning the batting title was "the right thing".

-Mike Max stated that Joe Mauer's batting title was "one of the most significant accomplishments in Minnesota sports history" and listed a number of provincial reasons for that incredible opinion.

-Star Tribune columnist Katherine Kersten penned a fluff piece describing how the families of the Twins players could be their secret weapon vs. the Oakland A's.

-Paul Allen dismissed Bill's running back Willis McGhahee's 28 carries-78 yards game as "non-descript" which was in stark contrast to his assessment of the Vikings Chester Taylor's "workhorse ...great game" 31 carry-88 yard effort in week one against the Redskins.

The H.O.W. is another WCCO journalist who has never shied away from corny homerism despite his statement to the contrary. WCCO news anchor Don Shelby cheesed it up with his "have you ever seen anybody play harder than Nick Punto" type musings. What really tipped the scales was this, "Here is a rare admission of bias from a member of the mainstream press ...I love these guys."

Bottom Line: Don, anyone who has watched or listened to Mike Max, Mark Rosen, or you over the years was already aware of your hometown provincial bias.
