Who: Sid Hartman
What: A few provincial takes included Paul Allen suggesting the Timberwolves will likely be playoff bound and former Vikings assistant coach Dean Dalton declaring the Gophers played very good in an embarrassing 10-9 win vs. the NDSU Bison.
In a classic case of a homer who "can't help himself", Sid Hartman turned to the desperation card in his columns this past week. He attempted to sell hope to the dwindling Gopher football fan base by painting a rosy scenario that would put them in another lower tier bowl.
We understand that Sid could justifiably be named H.O.W. nearly fifty-two times a year. However, his combination of excuse making, dismissive nature of future opponents, and general hope selling warranted his 4th win this year.
Bottom Line: Given Sid has acknowledged his lack of attendance at all of the recent Gopher fourth tier bowls, maybe his penitence for such wishful thinking (the Gopher going 6-6) is actually being forced to attend the game.
