Who: Dark Star
What: Early in the week it was fascinating to witness the dynamic on Mike Max's "The Sports Show". While Sid Hartman, Dark Star, and Mike Max were offering up more alibis than O.J. Simpson, guest panelist Stu Voight brought some realism to the show.
The former Viking tight end questioned whether Big Ten teams that feast on easy non-conference opponents, end the regular season 6-5, and go to lesser bowl games really have a "winning season".
Naturally this didn't sit well with his fellow panelists as Sid went through his "all these coaches can't be bad" rant and Mike Max concurred by adding "it is more complex" than focusing on the head coach (in reference to the University of Minnesota football program).
Yet it was Dark Star who sounded the silliest with his repetitive "he can coach-he won ten games in Kansas" and placing the blame for the lack of football success on the alumni association. He seriously suggested having boosters travel to Florida with $100,000 in a suitcase in an attempt to attract better recruits.
That and his comments later in the week suggesting Gopher women's basketball coach Pam Borton should be under more scrutiny than Glen Mason cemented his second H.O.W.
Bottom Line: Shouldn't the women's team making it to a Final Four afford Coach Borton a much longer rope than someone playing in a 4th tier bowl game in El Paso?
