Who: Sid Hartman
What: The week was peppered with many in the press holding their collective breaths in hopes that the Pistons head coach would not continue his underachieving road playoff record ways. After failing to reach the NBA finals, even knowledgeable NBA analyst Trent Tucker was dismissing Flip's culpability. He suggested Flip did not "come up short" and pointed to the Pistons "attitude and mind set" as their downfall. Despite Saunders defenders pensive and predictable reactions, the H.O.W. (Home of the Week) was not garnered by any of them.
Well-read professional football fans recognize Curly Lambeau, Paul Brown, George Halas, Buddy Parker, Weeb Eubank, Blanton Collier, Vince Lombardi, Don Shula, Hank Stram, Chuck Noll, Tom Landry, Joe Gibbs, and Bill Walsh as great (if not HOF) head coaches.
Now you can add one more name to that elite list. In discussing the Vikings new V.P. of Player Personnel with Eric Eskola, Sid Hartman described new Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress as a "great coach" cut in the mold of contemporaries Parcels and Belichick. With many in the local press this would be a brown-nosing throw away line, but with Sid he may actually believe it.
Bottom Line: While it is true that Coach Childress has yet to lose a game in the NFL, the same can be said of Sid himself.
